‘The Warden’ grabs award in Istanbul

Iran's ‘The Warden’ grabs award at the Int'l Crime and Punishment Film Festival in Turkey.

Iranian feature ‘The Warden’ has grabbed an award at the 2019 edition of the International Crime and Punishment Film Festival in the Turkish city of Istanbul.

Directed by Nima Javidi, ‘The Warden’ won the special student jury award at the 9th edition of the Turkish event.

“It is an honor for me to receive this award from students because I always consider myself a student in cinema and will remain a student,” Javidi said during the closing ceremony of the festival after receiving the award.

‘The Warden’ depicts an old prison in the late 1960s in southern Iran that is to be evacuated as it is close to the city’s airport which is under development.

The head of the prison, Major Nemat Jahed, and his officers are in the midst of transferring the prisoners to the new facility.

The International Crime and Punishment Film Festival aims to draw attention to the relationship between cinema and justice within an international organization.

The 9th edition of the festival was held on November 22-28, 2019.
